poster designs

As I started to think about the layout of my poster, I found that I was using a lot of images, which made me have to change the design of my poster around.

I designed a new layout with more pictures, text and a simple view path.

My poster is showing the design process starting from my influences and ending with my final design.

Markers

For my Markers in BuildAR, I have decided what marker will represent what view.

Marker W will show the front View of the building.
Marker R will show the right hand side of the building
Marker I will show the left hand side of the building.
Marker G will show the side of the building in section.
Marker H will show the plan of the building.
Marker T will show the building rotating around.

Model Improved

This is the Improved SketchUp model in the Digital Environment I have made for it.

SketchUp Model Improved

As I am getting my influence from Frank Lloyd Wright, who is interested in the horizontals of a building more than the verticals, I changed my design a little bit by making the horizontals more noticeable.

Model in BuildAR attempt 1

This is my first attempt at exporting my 3ds Max model into BuildAR. My model is designed with Frank Lloyd Wright as an inspiration, as he focuses more on the Horizontals, I have made the larger parts of my building the horizontal parts.

Building Animation

Digital Building

This is the Frank Lloyd Wright, Falling Water influenced model. I have made some adjustments on it since I first designed it as it now has the 2 side walls going all the way up, and in interior wall.. giving the building 2 rooms. I have not put any windows as the whole front of the building is open.

This is the front of the building. showing that it is open

This is the side enrtance of the building, showing that there is an entry point other than the front, and that the roof of the building far overhangs the front.

This is a section of the same view above. showing the 2 rooms in the building, where 1 is more secluded.

This is the front section of the building. showing that although it is a very open building, it still looks sealed.

This is the plan of the building, showing both rooms, and that the back wall is very thick to help support the cliff behind and the building in front.

Reflection

In week 1 Studio Class, we were to research an architect, designer or artist who dies within the last 50 years. I chose Frank Lloyd Wright, and although he dies in 1959, 52 years ago, I was still able to use him. Once I had researched my architect, and 2 of his works (Falling water and the Goetsch-Winkler House), I was given 2 pieces of paper and we were to fold a representation of each house using only a single piece of paper.
My idea of Frank Lloyd Wright that I received from his Falling Water House, where I draw most of my influence from, is that he liked to use overhangs, so naturally my whole design is based on overhangs on buildings. I also draw influence from the way he designed the building to blend in with the surrounding environment.
I imagined that building will also be built where a waterfall is, however unlike Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water, which blends in with the environment but does not disturb waterfall, I wanted mine to interact with it more, I put my waterfall flowing over the top of my building but it also blends in with the environment, as it is cut into the face of the cliff from the waterfall, and is the same height.
The plan of the building is very simple; there is the back wall, and 2 smaller side walls to help support the roof. Initially these 2 walls were half the height, but I now moved them up taller. The fourth wall is the wall of water from the waterfall. The building has only 2 rooms.

Poster Design Ideas

I have come up with 3 design layouts for my poster so far, but with the idea in mind that I can swap and exchange different parts of my ideas with each other, there are a lot more than 3 possible different posters here.

Frank Lloyd Wright Poster

This poster captures your attention starting at the top, where it is an artwork aerial view of a city with a dark blue splashback, as though it is night time. There is writing here, 2 small headings depicting a topic, venue and time. 'The Innovator' is written in large white bold font. Following that text you see more smaller writing, also white, saying, 'The Guggenheim April 3 - June 7'
Below that the image continues the aerial view of the city, but with a lighter yellow splashback, like daytime. There is font following the main street in the image, 'FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT'. This font starts off small towards the top left of the poster, but gets larger as it follows the road towards the viewer, as though it is taking the viewer along the road with it.

I think this poster is successful because it captures your attention at the top left of it and takes your eyes on a journey by carefully placed and designed short sentences onto the poster.

6 Markers

These are the markers I am designing in their beginning stages. As the Architect I am using is Frank Lloyd Wright, I decided to use the letters of his last name. WRIGHT, as there are 6 letters in the name and because it is simple to relate to the works.

Spore Creatures

This is the first creature I made. It is representing Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water, where I have made it look a similar shape of the tail end overhanging from the head.

This is the creature I created for Frank Lloyd Wright's Goetsch-Winkler House. This creature I designed to be a mountain creature, where I located my representation of the building.

This creature represents the third folding I did of a fellow classmate.

Inspirational Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality Magic 1.0
As I am a fan of card games, I found this an awesome Augmented Reality Video.

Sketches Environment 1

This is the plan view of my building in environment 1. It is essentially a building open at both ends.

This is the front sectional view of the building. It follows a similar front elevation to the Goetsch-Winkler House, by Frank Lloyd Wright.

This is the section down the middle of the building, showing that the floor and roof are the same thickness.

Combining the 3 drawings above, this is the building you get for my environment 1.
