Digital Environment 1

This is the digital image of my first sketch. This environment is designed to be like a cave, yet it follows a similar shape as Frank Lloyd Wrights Goetsch-Winkler House.

This is inside the building. It is open at both ends.

An aerial view of the building showing how it sits in the valley of mountains.

Digital Environment 2

This is the environment I based on Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water House. However I have made the waterfall go over and fall off the house rather than under it.

This is the building viewed roughly at eye level of the spore creature.

This is an aerial shot of the environment showing how the building fits into the landscape and how it interacts with it.

This is inside, underneath the river. I decided to use blue lights in here because you are under water.

Week 1 Tasks

For week 1 in ARCH1390, we had to research either a well known architect, artist or a designer, and 2 of their works, which we were to represent with folding 1 sheet of paper. I chose Frank Lloyd Wright and his works Falling Water and the Goetsch-Winkler House.

This is the photograph of the paper i folded. This is representing Falling Water, where the house has a lot of overhangs at different widths and thicknesses.

This is the rendered image I modelled in Google SketchUp.

This is the photo of the paper I folded to represent the Goetsch-Winkler House. The house has a large stone wall in the middle with timber construction and overhangs on each side.

This is the model I did in Google SketchUp.

A part of the task was to take a photo of another students folding and model it ourselves. This is the other students folding.

This is the model I did in Google SketchUp of his folded model.

Frank Lloyd Wright

Architect

Frank Lloyd Wright was born in 1867, in Richland Centre, Wisconsin. Originally, he was known as Frank Lincoln Wright, but after his parents divorce, he changed his name to Frank Lloyd Wright.
Frank Lloyd Wright began to realise his dream of becoming an architect during the summers he spent at his uncle James Lloyd Jones' farm.
Frank moved to Chicago in 1887, where he worked for an architect by the name of Joseph Lyman Silsbee, where he drafted the construction for his first building; the Lloyd-Jones family Chapel, also known as the Unity Chapel. Frank credited Louis Sullivan as a primary influence in his career as an architect.
Some famous buildings done by Frank Lloyd Wright are Falling Water in Mill Run, Pennsylvania and The Guggenheim Museum, in Manhatten, New York.

The 2 buildings that Frank Lloyd Wright designed that I have chosen to represent in my folding, are Falling Water, and the Goetsch-Winkler House.

3 Further works by Frank Lloyd Wright
The Guggenheim Museum in New York, The Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Chicago and The Kalita Humphreys Theatre in Dallas.

 The Guggenheim Musem

The work is considered to be a gift of pure Architecture or Sculpture. It is a continuous Helix that expands as it gets higher.
Frank Lloyd Wright describes it as:
"Entering into the spirit of this interior, you will discover the best possible atmosphere in which to show fine paintings or listen to music. It is this atmosphere that seems to me most lacking in our art galleries, museums, music halls and theaters."
